Slipper Pattern Tips and Suggestions

The following are random tips that I hope will be useful to you.

1. Use 100% Wool Worsted weight yarn. I like Lions, Fishermans, Cascade, Ella Rae, Classic Merino Wool, Patons just to name a few.

2. Before you start sewing, make sure that the bottom of the slipper has the "knitted" side out (this is the RS - right side). Also, make sure that the uppers both match and have the RS face up.

3. When felting your slippers, just when you think "this should be good" wash them one more round and then it's usually "yup, that's it - smile"

4. When fitting your slippers during felting, you can pull and stretch and fit the slippers into place on your foot. If the fit is still too loose, continue washing. If it is good, leave on foot for a moment to cool from the hot wash cycle. Slide off foot and air dry. If form does not stay in place, stuff with plastic bags to help hold form.

5. I like to use a nylon laundry bag for felting. If I am felting a large size slipper, I use two bags. One slipper in each bag to give them enough room to felt evenly.

6.When sewing your slipper, make sure that your stitches are loose. While you are sewing, you can pull on each side of the stitch to loosen it a little. Your sewing should mimic your knit tension, this will vary with each persons style of knitting.

7. I like to knit the i-cords two at a time. Knitting the two i-cords at the same time will help keep them the same length and it makes it go by faster.  I don't know if this shortens the time any, but it sure makes me feel fast and clever :)

8. Ideas for quicker drying time. Set your slippers over the vents during the winter when the furnace is on or out is the sun when it warm and sunny.

I hope these tips come in handy when you are creating. I enjoy making my slippers and feel proud when I see them finished. I hope you do too. All my best~

What's Up

I have been busy working on a couple of different slipper pattern ideas. The first, a pair of moccasins. They didn't turn out as nice as I had hoped, so back to the drawing board I go. The second, pair is III Cord Slipper pattern. These are like the Halloween treat, but a complete pattern, start to finish. I made the first pair a little too safe. They are not as fun as I had hoped, I have to spice it up a bit more.

I did come across a tip that would help with making my III Cord slippers - dual knitting - kinda neat!
Look at me go :)

Renegade Fair Chicago 2012

You couldn't ask for a nicer day, it was perfect.
A bright blue sky with a cool breeze.
The street was lined with white tents as far as you could see.
Each one filled with creative pieces of work or vintage items to love all over again.
The smell of barbecue in the air, along with music and laughter.
The sun warmed you as you strolled along with a plastic cup in your hand taking it all in.

Renegade: bringing people (even zombies) together for one friendly block party.

Thank you to all who worked so hard so that others could enjoy such an event :)

Huntley, IL (August 28, 2012)— Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens... With the holidays just months away, knitters are busy creating their favorite holiday projects for their friends and loved ones. But what do you get the knitter on your list? (Or get yourself if you are the knitter!) After This Row is a row tracking system created by Joyce Garris, an avid knitter from Huntley, Illinois. Garris created this time-saving knitting tool so she could enjoy her favorite hobby while raising her busy children. "As much as I tried to get right back to my knitting, sadly, it would sometimes be days, even weeks before I picked it up again," Garris said. "As I put my knitting away I would tell myself to remember where I left off, but most often I didn’t have a clue as to where I was when I last put down my project."
Priced affordably at just $1.99, the After This Row project sheets are designed to relieve the guesswork for knitters returning to their knitting projects. Whether they have put it down for a few hours, a few days or a few weeks, knitters will know exactly where they left off, almost as if they never put their projects down. Project e-books are also available for $4.99.
Three knitting tools are available to keep knitters on track:
  • Scarves, Shawls and Shawlettes
  • Socks, Leggings and Stockings
  • Sweaters and Coats
To purchase and download After This Row project sheets and e-books, visit www.afterthisrow.com. Gift certificates are also available. It's a perfect stocking stuffer for the knitter in your life!
